Topic:

Our topic question this term is ‘Is Banksy’s work art or graffiti?’ During this topic we will learn about the history of Banksy. We will use research engines to find out information about who Banksy is. Additionally we will look at Banksy’s art work and infer information about what his art work tell us about the type of person he is. As we progress through the term the children will learn about other graffit artists and their styles. Using the skills such as sketching, tone, light and shade, the children will plan and create their own Banksy style art work to put on display around school. We will be encouraging the children to consider the messages they want their art work to convey – this may link to our previous topic ‘Is pollution effecting evolution?’ Finally, considering some of the evidence and information gathered, the children will debate whether or not Banksy’s work should be classed as art or graffiti. All of the children’s art work will be displayed on an online gallery.

 

Science:

In science this term we will be learning about Electricity. To start this topic, we will consolidate our prior Year 4 knowledge on electricity and recap the benefits and dangers of electricity. As the topic progresses, we will learning how to create complex circuits using a range of different components such as buzzers, lights, motors and switches. We will investigate the impact voltage has on the components and how to use voltage safely. Finally we will use all of your knowledge gained to create a Christmas inspired design which can be given as a gift.

 

History:

Our History focus this term links with our Black History topic – Nelson Mandela. During this topic we will use timelines to map out the significant events in Nelson Mandela’s life. We will compare and contrast what life was like in Nelson Mandela’s life time. How life has changed or compares to 2020 and how life changed within his lifetime. We will consider the actions taken by Nelson Mandela and those who fought for equal rights and how they have changed our lives for the better.

 

PSHE:

Our PSHE topic this term is ‘Being safe’. During this topic we will explore how we can be safe in a variety of environments such as home, the park or online. We will also discuss how we can keep others safe and the responsibility we have in ensuring everyone’s as well as our own safety.  

 

RE:

In Religious Education, we will be discussing the question ‘Is it better to express your religion in arts and architecture or in charity and generosity?’ This topic will look at how religions share their values, beliefs and how they communicate these with the world. As part of this topic we will be looking at the meaning and teachings of ‘Yom Kipper’ in the Jewish community.
