Summer 2- We have a busy final term! For our main topic, “Anywhere Island”, pupils have discovered an uninhabited island. They will complete a variety of tasks based on this, including drama, art, mapping skills and problem-solving. We will also be focusing on transition work in preparation for our new schools. Of course, not forgetting the fundraising for our final Prom Night and rehearsing for our final production!
This term our topic is “What is Art?” as part of this we will be focusing on the Maori Culture. Learning all about the symbols and designs they use in the Maori War masks and what each of these mean. Over the course of the topic we will design, make and create our very own Maori Masks using paper mache.
As scientists this term, we will be learning about electricity and creating some circuits. We will be holding a science week beginning Monday 4th February.
On a Monday afternoon Mr. Barfoot teaches Computing in Year 6. This term our computing topic is “We are Project Managers.” This is the second in a sequence of six Year 6 units in which pupils work collaboratively to develop a smartphone or tablet app. Pupils apply computational thinking to the task of managing a complex project.
PE will be on a Wednesday with Mr. White where we will be focusing on invasion games. We may occasionally have extra PE sessions at various times so we suggest that PE kits are kept in school at all times. Also Mr White will be teaching us the Haka dance for the last two weeks of the term in order to link in with our Maori topic.
SMSC is taught on a Wednesday afternoon. This term we are focusing on ‘What does proud mean? Proud to be me!’.
RE is also taught on a Wednesday afternoon. In RE we are looking at ‘How do people express their faith through the arts?”
