Summer Term 1:
Design Technology:
This term, our Design and Technology unit is 'What makes a bridge value for money?'
The children will be making a variety of bridges (beam, arch and truss) from a range of materials (paper, spaghetti and wood). They will be testing them all for strength. Their final task will be to make a bridge for its strength, aesthetic properties and value for money - the children will be charged for every extra piece of wood or material they use so planning will be key!
History:
In History, we will be looking at Early Islamic Civilisation. We will begin to look at the impact that the Early Islamic Civilisation had on academics and how important Baghdad was.
Science:
In Science, our topic is Earth and Space. The children will be taught to:
We will also be visiting the Space Centre to see real-life astronaut equipment which will enhance our learning further.
Computing:
In this unit, we will start to create vector drawings. We will learn how to use different drawing tools to help us create images. We will recognise that images in vector drawings are created using shapes and lines, and each individual element in the drawing is called an object. We will layer our objects and begin grouping and duplicating them to support the creation of more complex pieces of work.
