Happy Children Inspired to Learn

Summer 1

Celebrating our Woodbridge star of the week winners showing confidence and respect.

Final week of our summer 1/2 term and we began in our English lessons exploring how to create an effective writing plan. In Science, on Tuesday, we land all about the water cycle and it’s four stages using some drama to help us remember each step of the process we then completed our independent right on our setting description of our hidden Maya ruin, which the children really enjoyed doing and showed off their creativity. With our upcoming times table checks, we took our times tables practice out onto the playground completing relays across the playground to answer our times tables as quickly as we could. We find it so helpful to incorporate movement with learning, as it really helps knowledge becoming embedded in their memory.

Week 4 in Rabbits and we begun with looking at the history of chocolate, from its origins with the Maya Civilisation. In English we compared our response the different examples of setting descriptions. In Science we explore the process of evaporation, we placed soaking paper towels in different locations and observed how much water had evaporated from them over a set amount of time. We then and a fantastic Thursday, creating our own healthy flapjack recipes. There were some positive reviews from the flavours, it was definitely an all hands on deck kind of lesson!

Week 4 star of the week winners for showing respect in school!

Week 3 in Rabbits’ class has been brilliant. We began the week learning about Maya Gods and how they were worshipped. We completed our first independent write of the summer using persuasive devices to our advantage. We joined in with the country p, celebrating VE Day with a special assembly, a decorated lunch and it was great to see children bring in items from their families past. In Science, we explored how different liquids reacted to being frozen, there were some very interesting observations made by the children!

Week 2 has been filled with beautiful sunshine. In tennis we continue to develop our racket skills. We begun our new computing unit in which we learnt how to edit images using crop and rotation tools. We also practice our typing skills using BBC dance mat in science we investigated how different types of chocolate reacted to being heated. We discovered that chocolate with a higher cocoa content melted much slower than other chocolates. This linked wonderfully with our history topic of the Maya people who discovered the Cocoa plant. In English we explored ambitious adjectives to describe tastes and smell and assess their relevant by using our zone of relevance diagram. We also advanced our reading skills by retrieving information to answer fill the gap questions on an article linked to our Science topic of states of matter. We also took our class council meeting out under our school magnolia tree and enjoyed the cool breeze in the shade whilst we were updated by our class counsellors.

Week 2 star of the week winners for being super responsible.

We have begun to improve our tennis skills in PE focusing on footwork and correct feet position. In Science, we began our new states of matter topic, exploring the difference between solids, liquids and gases and then seeing the three states interacting in real life. In DT to inform our recipes for healthy snacks, we tested five products on the current market. We considered their appearance taste texture and smell and finally looked at their nutritional benefits. We also begun our new history topic into the Maya people discovering when they prospered and where they inhabited.
