Autumn 1.
Well done to our certificate winners for this week.
Week 6.
This week we continued our drumming lessons and launched’Beat The Streets!’ Even the Mayor came to wish us luck! We painted trees with water colours and wrote up our English work into a published leaflet about how to help our school environment. Our zone’s lesson focused on recognising which zones different scenarios would put us in.
We had an amazing time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park!
Week 5
This week we used djembe drums in our music, showing great rhythm. In computing we learnt how to control the mouse when making pictures. Our science continued to explore muscles, balancing proved to use lots of our muscles! Our watercolour art continued with beginning our landscape piece, creating a sky and colour washing below. In zones this week we watched a series of short clips and thought about which zones the clips represented.

Week 4.
In week four, we continued athletics in P.E, with throwing. We experimented with painting clouds and skies with watercolours and explored muscles in science. In maths we began addition and subtraction and in English looked at The Tin Forest to engage in many types of writing. In PHSCE, we considered wants and needs with our partners. On Friday, Christmas came early in Squirrels! We designed our cards with a festive feel!

Week 3
In week 3, we used claves in music, explored brush techniques in art and explored the features found in the city of Derby. We had an amazing afternoon making pirate masks to be part of the Alfreton festival.

Week 2.
In week 2, we looked at the features of our local town Alfreton in geography. In art we explored the effects of watercolours and in music we looked at djembe drums. We continued athletics in P.E and used 100s, 10s and 1s counters in maths.
In our first week together, Squirrels have got to know their classmates with several activities. We have used base 10 during place value lessons in maths and practiced athletics in P.E. In science we looked at different skeletons and at what function our skeleton has.
Summer 2.
Week 6
This week in Squirrel’s, we have looked at the position of the equator and which continents and countries it runs through. We have explored which materials are most and least reflective and have added colour using our chosen medium to complete our amazing Van Gogh pictures. In maths we completed our unit on shape and in English we worked on creating effective similes, using alliteration and onomatopoeia! Outside we practiced our cricket skills in P.E and thoroughly enjoyed our last forest school session.
Summer 2
Week 5.
This week in Squirrels, we have looked at free verse poetry in English, continued work in shape in maths and explored climate zones in geography. In zones we thought about triggers throughout our day and how we could manage them. Our art work progressed into sketching Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, ready to finalise our piece next week. The highlight of the week was sports day. An amazing was had with races and team spirit.
Summer 2
Week 4.
This week we completed our narrative writing and read some to the class. We practiced for sports day in P.E and took part in world rainforest day for our geography lesson. In art we used oil pastels to zoom in on Van Gogh’s sunflowers to ensure to understand the importance of looking at detail. The end of the week was transition into our new Year 4 class. We loved a glimps of being Rabbits!

Week 3
Well done to our certificate winners for showing respect.
This week we began to practice some activities for sports day, explored how shadows change with the direction of light and explored different materials to represent Van Gogh’s artwork. In English, we wrote an introduction paragraph for our narrative and began to write our plan. We concluded our topic on time in maths and began a unit on shape.

Week 2.

This week, we have been exploring skills needed for writing a narrative. We practiced writing 3 predicate sentences. In maths we continue thinking about time and durations of time.
our one off history lesson, linked to our mining topic last term. It looked at the Aberfan disaster, which we explored through drama. In P.E. we further explored the game of cricket and in science, we explored how shadows were made.

Week 1.
Well done to our certificate winners this week for showing creativity.
In our first week of the last half term in Year 3, we have begun an English unit on writing a narrative and developed our skills to tell the time. We have been working hard to get our handwriting ready for Year 4! Our art lessons are looking at the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh. We loved exploring some of his paintings and learning what inspired him to paint each one.
