Happy Children Inspired to Learn

Summer Term 2023

Summer 2 Medium term plan

Summer 2

This half term, we will exploring the question, 'How does the Sun influence our lives?', focusing on learning about lights and shadows in Science. In Geography, we will learn how the Sun determines Geographical features around the World and how it can affect climate zones, polar regions and human and physical geography. In Art, we will be exploring the culture of shadow art then creating our own shadow puppet performance.

To help us do this, we will be answering a mini-question each week:

KQ1

Does the sun affect regions differently?

KQ2

How does the Sun change the shape of shadows?

KQ3

How does the sun impact the physical geography of a region?

KQ4

How does the Sun affect where we live?

KQ5

How does the position of the Sun change how much light we get?

KQ6

What is life like in countries near the equator and the polar regions?

KQ7

Is the sun our friend or foe?

Here is the topic plan and sticky knowledge organiser that we will be using. The sticky knowledge organisers contain all of the key learning information that the children will gain over the course of this topic.

Summer 2 Homework

Summer 1 Term: Could plants survive on their own?

Summer 1

This half term is our Enterprise term, where we will use our Design and Technology skills to design and create seed bombs to support plants and pollinators alike.  To do this, we will exploring the question, 'Could plants survive on their own?', focusing on learning about the parts and functions of plants, as well as their growth requirements and the pollination process in Science. This will help us to learn about the important relationship between pollinators and plants. Once we have designed and created our seed bombs, we will sell them as part of our Enterprise topic.

In History, we will be learning about the history of mining in Derbyshire. We will take a look at historic changes during this time, whilst exploring the lives and roles of people involved in mining. We will also explore different sources of information to help us construct the past, as well as develop questions to ask about the history of mining.
