Autumn Term 2022
Autumn 2 Maths:
Maths at Woodbridge Junior School follows the Maths No Problem Textbooks – This term we are continuing our work on fractions. This will include: simplifying fractions; comparing and ordering fractions including mixed and improper fractions; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. We will use concrete materials and pictorial representation to support learning.
We will then be looking at reading, writing and understanding decimals up to thousandths, using concrete materials to support learning. Concepts taught will include the following: multiplying and dividing numbers by multiples of 10; calculating decimal and fraction equivalents; multiplying and dividing decimals by up to a 2-digit number.
There will be plenty of opportunities to apply these skills in Greater Depth Challenges and problem-solving activities. We will also consolidate rapid recall of X tables up to 12 x 12.
Autumn 1 Maths:
Maths at Woodbridge Junior School follows the Maths No Problem Textbooks – This term we are focusing on developing our understanding of place values specifically looking at numbers to a million. In the first unit of Year 6, we will consolidate prior knowledge of place value, working with numbers between 100,000 to 1 000 000. We will be using concrete materials such as base ten and place value charts to help represent numbers. As we progress through the chapter we will develop our knowledge of place value, working with numbers between 1 000 000 and 10 000 000 using number discs, numerals and words. We will then be learning how to round and compare numbers to 10 000 000, followed by placing them in order from smallest to greatest. There will be plenty of opportunities to apply these skills in Greater Depth Challenges and problem-solving activities.
