Maths
Spring 2 - Maths:
Maths at Woodbridge follows the White Rose Scheme. This term we will be going back to looking at fractions but finding their equivalent in decimals and percentages too. We will then move on to finding the area and perimeter of quadrilaterals and triangles before moving on to finding volumes of cuboids. To round off the term, we move to reading and interpreting graphs such as: line graphs, bar chart and pie charts. We will also be finding the mean (average).
As always, we will continue to develop our reasoning skills with our chilli challenges. Our weekly TT20 challenge will continue to keep our times tables at the front of our memories too.
Spring Term 1 - Maths:
This term, we will be covering topics including Ratio and Algebra and Decimals. In Ratio, the children will be solving real life problems and converting between ratio and fractions. In our unit on Algebra, we will be looking at function machines before moving on to forming and solving equations. As well as revising their place value knowledge to include decimals, the children will also be rounding decimals, adding and subtracting decimals and understanding further what happens when we multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 etc. There will be plenty of opportunities to apply these skills in Greater Depth Challenges and problem-solving activities.
As ever, it is so important for the children to have developed a rapid recall of all multiplication facts to 12 x 12. We will continue to practice these skills using TT Rockstars as well as other classroom activities. However, any further practice at home using TT Rockstars, Hit the Button or simply firing question after question at them can only be a benefit.
Autumn 2 - Maths:
As we continue following the White Rose Maths Scheme, we will be focusing on Fractions this term. We will start by revisiting simplifying and finding equivalent fractions before placing our fractions on number lines. Using these skills, we move on to comparing and ordering fractions as we are able to find equivalent fractions with the same denominators or numerators. We are then able to add and subtract fractions in both their mixed and improper forms.
To complete fraction work to the best of their ability, the children must have all of their times table facts at their finger-tips. Therefore, completing their TT20 challenge as well as using TT Rockstars on a regular basis will be key to their success.
Autumn 1 - Maths:
Here at Woodbridge Junior School, we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme. This term we are focusing on developing our understanding of place values specifically looking at numbers to a million. In the first unit of Year 6, we will consolidate prior knowledge of place value, working with numbers between 100,000 to 1,000,000. We will be using concrete materials such as base ten and place value charts to help represent numbers. As we progress through the chapter we will develop our knowledge of place value, working with numbers between 1,000,000 and 10,000,000 using number discs, numerals and words. We will then be learning how to round and compare numbers to 10,000,000, followed by placing them in order from smallest to greatest. We follow this unit by building on our existing knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There will be plenty of opportunities to apply these skills in Greater Depth Challenges and problem-solving activities.
