Happy Children Inspired to Learn

Spring Term 1

History:

In History, we are learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We will be looking at the Anglo-Saxons time period, where they came from and why they came to Britain. We will be learning about the impact this had on Britain at this time and they fight they had against the Scots to gain control.

Geography:

Geography, we will be identifying where on a map the Anglo-Saxons came from and their route to Britain.

Design and Technology:

In DT, we will be designing, building and evaluating our own Anglo-Saxon weaponry - a trebuchet. We will be learning how to use different woodwork skills to build our own version.

Art:

In Art, we will be learning how to use charcoal to draw our own Anglo-Saxon village.

Science:

This term we will be learning about Forces. The children will be able to:

  • explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect

Computing:

In this unit, we will use physical computing to explore the concept of selection in programming through the use of the Crumble programming environment. We will be introduced to a microcontroller (Crumble controller) and learn how to connect and program components (including output devices- LEDs and motors) through the application of their existing programming knowledge.
