Word Aware Games

Word Aware is a whole school vocabulary approach to promote vocabulary development in children. A rich knowledge of vocabulary improves all areas of communication — listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary is critical to a child's success at school and beyond.

Children need to encounter new vocabulary in a range of different ways to ensure they remember what it means and how to use it.  The more children are exposed to new vocabulary, the more likely they are to retain it and use it in their spoken and written work.

You can help your child at home to acquire new language by reading to them, discussing the Word of the Week and even playing word games. See below for more fun ways to promote a love of words at home.
