Summer 2.
How does the sun shape our lives?
Science:
We will be investigating the sun and how shadows are made by blocking light from the sun. We will also look at reflection and how this is only possible when light is present.
History.
Our one off history lesson will focus on drama to explore the Aberfan mining disaster in Wales. This will link to our mining unit from last term.
Geography.
During our geography lessons, we will first investigate similarities and differences within regions. Then we will look at climate zones and the polar regions.
Art.
This half term we will immerse ourselves in the life of Vincent Van Gogh, looking at how his surrounding s and mood influenced what he painted. We will use different medium and techniques to recreate his famous 'sunflowers'. During this unit we will reda the book 'Camile and the sunflowers' which tells the life of Van Gogh.
Summer 1
Could plants survive on their own?
Science:
We will recap naming parts of a plant then discover the function of each part. We will dissect a lily to see each section clearly. We will explore what is need for healthy plant growth and discover the stages of the life cycle of a flowering plants, We will then look at how water is transported through a plant, using drama and experiments to help us understand this Finally we will look at looking a pollination with the aid of ‘cheesy watsits’ and seed dispersal.
Geography:
Our one off geography lesson looks at how many food miles the food we eat has travelled and the impact of this on the environment. We will use ICT to help us scan QR codes to find the information.
D.T:
We will be evaluating existing seed bombs, then designing and making our own seeds bombs, complete with packaging and care label.
History:
During our local history unit, we will explore the impact of the mining act on mining communities and how their lives differed from upper class. We will look at mining artefacts and role play the life of a miner.
Art:
Our one-off art lesson will use chalks and pastels on black paper, to create a one point perspective drawing of a mine.
P.E:
We will be practicing skills needed to engage in a game of tennis.
Spring 2
How can I be a healthier me?
Science -
We will recap the main functions of the human skeleton then, learn the names of some of the main bones and major organs. We will learn what we need to keep our bodies healthy, looking at what each food group is important for. We will consider how an active lifestyle contributes to good health and also look at how to help our mental health.
Geography -
We will be learning about the United Kingdom. We will understand the difference between a country, a region and a county and be able to name ones important to us. We will use atlases to locate regions and counties. We will then look at topography to identify mountains and rivers which are important in the United Kingdom.
History -
Our one history lesson for this half term will focus on recapping important changes of the Stone Age. We will work together to present the main points for aspects such as homes, food and tools, choosing how we think will be the best way to showcase our work.
D.T. -
We will first taste a variety of different breads and evaluate them. We will design our own bread roll, considering different flavours and designs. We will follow a recipe to make our bread and then evaluate our success.
Art -
Our one art lesson will focus on producing cave paintings using charcoal.
P.E -
This half term we will be taking part in wheel chair sports to experience a variety of games on wheels!
Music -
After completing our Ukulele sessions and performing in our concert, we will then use Churanga for our music sessions.
Spring 1.
Could we survive in the Stone Age?
History- We will explore all aspects of the Stone Age. We will create a time line of events, look at shelters, think about how artefacts help us understand history and look at how the Stone Age moved into the Iron and Bronze age.
DT – We will create a Stone Age shelter. We will learn how to join materials, design and test ideas and then evaluate how successful our shelter is.
Art – We will create a Stone Age cave painting using charcoal and chalk, inspired by what we have studied.
Science- We will learn about sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. We will observe and classify rocks and learn how fossils and soils are made.
Geography – We will use maps and atlases to be able to locate and name countries within the United Kingdom.
Music – In music we will continue to learn how to play the Ukulele.
French – We will begin to learn animals names.
Autumn 2. What is art?
Art
We will be exploring a variety of types of art. We will then look in detail at Roman art. We will explore different techniques of shading to help us design a Roman pot.
History.
We will learn about how the Roman Empire grew and what made it so successful. We will explore what made the Roman army the strongest force in the world at the time. We will examine primary and secondary resources and compare how they give us clues to the past.
Geography.
We will use maps and atlases to locate Rome and the countries which made up it's empire. We will explore the physical and human features of Rome.
D.T.
We will explore the properties of clay and how to manipulate it. We will use a variety of techniques and joining methods to produce a Roman style pot. We will evaluate our product and give suggestions for improvements if needed.
Science
We will explore forces and magnets, investigating which materials are attracted to magnets and why. We will explore the strength of different types of magnets and make and test predictions to various scientific questions. We will explore the force of friction to understand what this means. We will test various surfaces after making predictions and record our results.
